Engage Partners is The Assignment Report’s UK Education Industry Company of the Year 2014

publication date: Jan 2, 2015

Education recruitment companies were back in favour in 2014, attracting interest from private equity and trade buyers looking to gain market share. However, by its very nature, the recruitment and placement of teachers is one of those fields where it is very difficult to stand out for innovative practice. But that is precisely what Engage Partners have done with iDay, its novel match-making type solution for schools looking to recruit staff from overseas.

It takes a certain type of culture to enable an off-the-wall - and relatively high cost, high risk - service like iDay to flourish in a conservative sector, which is where co-founders Matt Ellis and Rob Harvey come in. Having met in 2001 whilst in ad sales, the pair had soon set up, grown and sold their first education recruitment business. After two years at the new parent, the pair left in 2008 to co-found Engage, which - with the help of a very strong team of directors and managers - they have now grown into the UK’s largest privately-held education recruitment company.

For the year ended 31 December 2013, Engage posted an operating profit of £1.0m on revenue up 89% to £18.3m, and 2014 saw further growth as the company continued to build out its UK regional network to serve its expanding customer base. 2015 is expected to be another good year for Engage.
