Northgate plans public sector expansion

publication date: May 1, 2008
author/source: Ed Tranham

Following its acquisition by KKR, Northgate Information Services plans to expand its public sector business in education. The expansion will be through a combined programme of organic growth and acquisitions. Perhaps one of its first acquisitions will be the public sector business of Anite plc which is up for sale and is believed to worth about £50m. Anite has recently missed the government’s 31 March deadline to deliver its Integrated Children’s System software to its local authority customer base as part of the Every Child Matters agenda.

In a smaller deal, Civica’s shareholders have given their approval to the £190m acquisition of their company by 3i.
