The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) has given McDonald’s and two other employers – Network Rail and Flybe – awarding body status, enabling these employers to offer courses which could form part of a qualification at the standard of A Levels or advanced diplomas. The recognitions form part of QCA’s new Qualifications and Credit Framework, designed to enable people to gain qualifications at their own pace along flexible learning paths.

The framework is currently being trialed although last month four out of 10 university admissions tutors in a group of leading universities said they would not accept students who had taken the new diplomas. A decision is expected later this year as to whether the new framework will be fully implemented in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
